Unusual start to my day this morning. No walk. Instead, up at 4 AM to bake my Keto muffins so I can take a passel of them with me when I meet with the my friend, Jeff, at the little coffee shop in LaConner. I hesitated to take all two dozen muffins to give to customers until I find out from Kim, the coffee shop owner, if she really welcomes them. I found out today that she truly does. Many of her customers have wanted to try them and some have asked for the recipe. I told Kim that when I return from Alaska, I’ll provide both on Friday mornings. At least for awhile. While, there, I had a good conversation with Jeff. Judy B. dropped by for coffee so had a chance to catch up with her. Several other interesting conversations, the one with Susan, a social worker who rents a room at Kim’s house, especially interesting because her work with the marginalized could leave her dispirited but doesn’t because she sees that every one of her clients is on their own journey and they have to be allowed to walk it the way they want without interference. Such an enlightened view. She talked about how it has warmed her heart to be able to do what she does, bringing a deep peace.
I got home after 8 AM to find Kornelia and Brian, who arrived unexpectedly last evening just in time for supper, still in bed. Last I’d known they had intended to make it to the early yoga class in Burlington. It sounds like they’re going to catch the 6 PM class or, at least, Kornelia is. Before heading out to the coffee shop this morning I did all my mat work. I left my workout on my Pilate’s exercise machine until my return. Again, I was pleased how well that machine works for me. In no time at all, I was into a full scale aerobic workout while flat on my back, my legs, thighs mainly, getting a good workout at the same time. It was enjoyable having a few minutes to talk with Kornelia again today after Brian’s departure, and to hear again how completely happy she is, her relationship with Brian being part of it, but only a part since everything she has intended for herself – we create our own realities – has come to pass, all her relationships thriving, including her relationship with me, I might add.
Yesterday had been full and entertaining. I wrote in the morning and then met with the “Thursday Boys” for lunch as planned. I was correct. There was not nearly the crowd at the Waterfront Cafe so we were able to hear each other as we talked our way into the afternoon. Another pleasant occasion. As I mentioned yesterday I had walked to LaConner and after lunch had wandered up to the Library to see if it had this month’s “Money” magazine which Kornelia was searching for (to help her prepare for her new radio show “Millionaire”). Sure enough, it did but I could only read it there. As i was walking back across the bridge Kornelia picked me up in her car which gave her time to tell me she had fust encountered my friend, Janet, on LaConner’s First Street and had helped her push her stalled car to curbside. Shortly after we’d arrived home, Janet phoned to say her stalled car had started again and that she had driven it to her mechanic’s garage. Now she needed a ride back to town. Just as quickly as I had shucked my shoes, I put them back on and was soon back in town in my Ford Ranger with Janet beside me. Because Janet had arranged to meet another Janet for a poetry reading at the Seaport Book Store in an hour, we opted to take tea at the new Serendipity Tea shop on First Street. I was so glad we did, because we were able to sip tea with Linda, the new owner. Tim, her husband, was away on an errand but Linda was a delight with a well told but horrendous story regarding their recent journey to LaConner and the opening of their new business. I told her, before we left, that I would be glad to tend the store for a day so they could get away.
By the time I returned home, Kornelia had about completed her time with her client and while the two of them went for a walk, I began preparing supper, steak and onions with a side dish of broccoli and cheese and a salad making use of the last of the white grapes with which I mixed cucumber and walnuts with a ranch dressing. Just as I was getting ready to dish supper up for the three of us, Brian surprised us, strolling onto the back deck. We thought he’d been in Arizona. He had instead been on his boat in nearby Anacortes. So I happily set a place for a fourth and we continued a most pleasant conversation until dark, about 9:30 PM, Kornelia insisting on cleaning up the kitchen, angel that she always is.
