(II)

When Ink is Made of Tears

Sometimes,
when we sign our names,
the ink is made of tears.
Sometimes,
most times,
the sympathy cards
little defence
against death’s demanding
presence,
and the heart-searing
absence,
it imposes.
But we offer what we
can and do,
gladly,
taking on love’s poses,
but sadly,
too, with our own fears,
signing our names,
the ink our tears.
